Digital learning

We support tertiary education providers to integrate digital technology into their delivery and use digital technologies and tools to enhance the learner’s experience

Medr’s work on digital learning supports Strategic Aim 2 from our Strategic Plan:

“To create a flexible and joined up tertiary system where everyone can acquire the skills and knowledge they need for a changing economy and society.”

Digital 2030 is a ten-year strategic framework for digital learning originally published by the Welsh Government in June 2019. It applies to further education institutions (colleges), apprenticeship providers and adult community learning providers.

Digital 2030

The framework was co-produced with the sector, setting out a shared vision and aims to achieve by 2030.

“Post-16 learning providers will seamlessly integrate digital technology into delivery; and encourage innovation in using inclusive, accessible and bilingual approaches to enhance the learner’s experience. Based on an awareness of the digital skills needed to support the Welsh economy, providers will equip learners and staff with the digital capabilities and confidence they will need to success in everyday life and in work.”
Digital 2030 Vision

Responsibility for Digital 2030 transferred from the Welsh Government to Medr on 1 August 2024. We are preparing for a mid-term refresh of the framework document before the end of 2026.

Jisc is a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation which supports tertiary education and research communities across the UK in the use of digital technologies and data. As one of Jisc’s UK funders, we provide approximately £3.3 million in grant funding to Jisc each academic year for services and support to eligible learning providers in Wales.

Under our annual funding agreement, Jisc also provides specialist advice and practical support for Digital 2030 and strategic digital learning priorities in Wales.
