James is responsible for overseeing £1bn of investment in tertiary education and research in Wales; building collaborative relationships with partners; and leading the team to deliver a more joined-up and inclusive sector in Wales – one which helps every learner find their path and ensures the system meets the needs of our society and economy.
James previously worked in a range of senior leadership roles in the Welsh Government. With a passion for leading transformational change programmes, he led on future farming policy before taking up the role to lead on the sector-wide reform programme to establish Medr. In his early career, James also worked for the Cabinet Office in Whitehall.
James is passionate about helping people realise their full potential He’s an active coach and mentor and a Welsh learner.
