Medr/2026/39: Additional Funding for Post-16 Transition Funding 2026-27

Introduction

1. This publication sets out the arrangements and timing for additional funding of £3,000,000 for Post-16 Transition Funding in academic year (AY) 2026/27 – £2,202,000 to further education institutions (FEIs)and £798,000 to local authorities (LAs)for mainstream schools with sixth forms.

2. Further education institutions and local authorities should adhere to the ‘Post-16 Transition Funding for Local Authorities and Further Education Institutions Guidance Note 2026/27’.

Additional funding amounts and timings

3. An allocation of £798,000 will be allocated to LAs for mainstream schools with sixth forms for Post-16 Transition Funding in 2026/27, as shown in the table below. Funding is allocated at £6,000 per school.

5. This funding relates to the period 1 November 2026 to 31 July 2027. This additional funding will be paid in full in one instalment to FEIs and local authorities in December 2026.
